Bisse de Clavau

Bisse Hikes are a unique experience in Valais. They trace the route of the bisses, the historic irrigation channels that carry precious water from the mountain streams to the vineyards or orchards. This hike along the Bisse de Clavau is around 12 kilometres long with 470 metres of elevation gain and can be done downhill or uphill. From Icogne, the trail first heads downhill through hay meadows, before crossing the forest as far as the Lienne, the mountain stream from which the Bisse de Clavau originates. Along the route, you discover the many different ways in which these bisses are constructed: open, covered, through tunnels or via conduits. Take in the breathtaking views across the Rhone Valley, the vineyard terraces and the two castles of Tourbillon and Valère that tower above Sion. On the way, information boards provide you with interesting facts about the bisses and the challenges they overcame.
