Bisse de Lentine et Bisse de Mont d’Orge

This hike centres around two irrigation channels, known as bisses: the Bisse de Lentine, which you follow until it flows into Lac du Mont d’Orge. Afterwards, the Bisse of Mont d’Orge runs through the Mont d’Or wine-growing estate. The hike, which is a good eight kilometres long, begins in the hamlet of Drône. Affording many wonderful views, the Bisse de Lentine takes you through vineyards, orchards, forests and past guérites (vineyard huts) to Lake Mont d’Orge, which is located in a nature reserve below a ruined castle. From there the path winds through the Mont d’Or wine-growing estate, a 24-hectare vineyard comprising 220 terraces. After a short descent through the vineyard terraces, you reach the Bisse de Mont d’Orge, which was built in 1885. It takes water from Lake Mont d’Orge to the southern flank of the slope and irrigates the vineyard. The view from here looks out over Sion and the two medieval castles of Tourbillon and Valère.
