Schinznach Bad – Hirschen Wine Route – Part II

Thalheim

The second part of the walk begins below Thalheim at Hof Kasteln, where we’ll stock up on provisions again if needed. The main reason for stopping here, however, is to visit the organic vineyards of our fellow winegrower, Tom Litwan. We’ll then walk back to the village and on to the next vineyards, a few square metres of which also belong to Tom.

Above Steiacher and Chöliacher lies the Swisstruffle truffle plantation, the source of our Burgundy truffles, which will find their way back onto our plates in the autumn. The Passbeizli on the Staffelegg is the perfect spot to take a break. We then head down into the valley, flanked by wild garlic meadows in spring. In Küttigen, it’s well worth taking the loop through the Wehrli family’s vineyards, complete with a bench and a view. After a stop in the village, a leisurely forest path leads to the Waldhaus Gehren with its garden terrace and desserts. From there, it’s about 20 minutes back to the Hirschen, where a good glass of wine awaits us
